As a seventh grade teacher, I have the opportunity to become familiar with assessment-related information about incoming students. The majority of these data have to do with reading and comprehension skills.
 
In grade-level team meetings, my colleagues and I discuss interpreting MAP-R and MSA test results. In addition, I review data from formative and writing assessments.  These data provide valuable information  
 
Although the seventh grade English curriculum offers many choices, MCPS teachers give one county-prepared formative assessment each quarter. Making decisions about how to modify formative assessments, which additional ones to use, and when to use them is the challenge that remains.

Artifact: Mini-research project rubric.

Unit 1 of the new sixth grade English curriculum includes the requirement for a "mini-research" project. I asked students to concentrate on the note-taking, summarizing, and editing processes. The rubric was distributed at the beginning of the project.

Artifact: Peer editing worksheet.

Sixth grade students have done three peer edits and have produced careful and insightful results. This worksheet was used to edit the rough draft of a mini-research project report.
